Off-grid and hybrid solar for Mount Gambier and the Limestone Coast
Shorter winter days, forestry and dairy loads, and long rural lines a long way from Adelaide. What power's like out here
Mount Gambier and the Limestone Coast are on SA Power Networks' network. The city is well served, and the lines across Grant and Wattle Range run a long way through farms and pine plantations.
This is the far south-east corner of the state, so winters are wetter and the days are shorter than the Adelaide Hills. An off-grid system here is sized for June, with room in the battery for cloudy runs.
Storms off the Southern Ocean take the lines out along the coast and through the plantations.
Properties are dairy, cropping, forestry and lifestyle blocks, often with a shed or dairy a long way from the house.

Will off-grid solar handle a Limestone Coast winter?
It can if it's sized for June. We look at heating, hot water and cooking first, then size the panels and battery to suit, usually with a generator for backup.
Is off-grid cheaper than connecting a rural block on the Limestone Coast?
Often the grid connection price for a new rural block covers a complete stand-alone system with a generator for backup, and there's no daily supply charge afterwards. The design compares both paths with the working shown.
