Off-grid and hybrid solar for the Riverland
Irrigation pumps, horticulture peaks and rural lines along the Murray. If you're on a fruit block out of Renmark, a farm near Loxton or a new build on the river at Waikerie, a well-designed solar and battery system can cut you loose from the grid or keep you going when it drops. Hybrid means solar plus a battery with the grid kept as backup.
What power's like out here
The Riverland is on SA Power Networks' network. The towns along the river are well served, and the lines out to the blocks and dry-land farms run a long way.
Summer is when the network is most stretched. Heat, pumps and cool rooms all peak together, and a hybrid system with real backup keeps the cool room cold when the line sags.
Sun is some of the best in the state, with hot summers and short, clear winters. Irrigation is the big design question here, not heating.
Properties are citrus, stone fruit, vines, almonds and broadacre farms, with pumps and sheds spread out along the rows.

Is off-grid cheaper than connecting a rural block in the Riverland?
Often the grid connection price for a new rural or horticulture block covers a complete stand-alone system with a generator for backup, and there's no daily supply charge afterwards. The design compares both paths with the working shown.
