Tenterfield Shire is on Essential Energy's network. Much of the shire is fed by long rural lines, with SWER in the back country, so outages after storms and fires can be long.
Winters bring hard frosts and short days, but clear skies, which is good for solar. Heating loads in winter are the big design question.
The 2019 fire season hit the shire hard. Fires burnt through country around Drake and Tabulam in September 2019, and homes were lost.
Properties are big: grazing, orchards and lifestyle blocks, often with bores, pumps and sheds well away from the house.

Common questions
Will off-grid solar handle a Tenterfield winter?
It can if it's sized for June. We look at your heating, hot water and cooking first, then size the panels and battery to suit, usually with a generator for backup.
Does a battery help in bushfire season?
A system with backup keeps water pumps and communications running when the grid is switched off or damaged. We'll talk through what you want kept on.
