Off-grid and backup solar for Lobethal, Cudlee Creek and the northern Hills
If you were in the Hills in December 2019, you don't need it explained. When the fire comes through, the power goes, and so does the pump. We design systems for Lobethal and the northern Hills that keep water and lights on, or that take you off the grid for good.

What power's like out here
You're on SA Power Networks' network here.
The Cudlee Creek fire started on 20 December 2019 and burnt 23,295 hectares, hitting Lobethal, Woodside, Brukunga, Harrogate and Mount Torrens. The CFS says 85 homes were lost and one person died.
South Australia also lost power statewide on 28 September 2016 after storms brought down transmission towers. A lot of Hills people remember that one too.
Lobethal, Gumeracha and Woodside are in the Adelaide Hills Council area. Blocks range from town lots to vineyards and grazing land, often with bores and tanks.
How we work here
The Off Grid Shop designs every system, sized around your house, pumps and the fire season. A vetted, accredited installer already working in SA does the install.
- Tell us about the property on our design form.
- We design the system in-house and send you the design.
- A vetted, accredited local partner installs it. See our recent work.
Common questions
Will a battery keep my pump running in a fire-season power cut?
It can, if it's designed for backup. We size the system for fire-fighting pumps and water first, then the house.
Can I go fully off-grid in the Adelaide Hills?
Yes. Many properties suit it, especially those with long private lines. Winter here is cloudy, so we size for June and usually add a generator.
Are there rebates in SA?
Federal support can apply to eligible solar and batteries. We check it on each design. See our rebates page for the current details.
Do you cover Woodside and Mount Torrens?
Yes. Put your postcode in the form and we'll match you with a local installer.
