Off-grid solar in the Adelaide Hills.
Bushfire country, long rural feeders, and properties that sit just past the last transformer. We design stand-alone and hybrid systems for hills acreage and fringe blocks from Stirling through Mount Barker — property first, then the design, then the gear. This is not an Adelaide CBD retail page.

When the feeder drops, the range goes dark
A Total Fire Ban day is when SAPN lines through the ridges are most likely to go. The houses running their own power keep the fridge cold and the pumps turning. That is not a slogan. It is how this range already learned the difference between a connection and a system you own.
The quote that starts the conversation
A new rural or fringe block often arrives with a network connection quote that already covers a complete stand-alone system. We put both paths on the same design — poles and wires versus solar, storage, inverter and generator — and let the property pick.
South-facing gullies and ridge shade
A roof in a south-facing gully sees a different winter to a ridge at Stirling. The design starts with that sun path, then the loads, then the gear. Hills shade is a fact the drawing has to count, not a surprise on the first site visit.
Property, then design, then gear
No brand is the house brand. Victron, Sigenergy, Deye, EcoFlow and Australian-made storage each get named when the Hills property calls for them. We hold no warehouse, on purpose — nothing on a shelf steers the drawing.
Stand-alone, hybrid, and the farms in between
| The job | What the design answers | Where it usually lands |
|---|---|---|
| Rural new build | Power before the slab, then the finished home for decades | Full off-grid with generator integration — see what we install |
| Grid-edge house on a ridge | Fire-day outages, evening peak, the option to cut later | Hybrid storage on the existing SAPN connection |
| Existing solar, no storage | Stop exporting cents and buying the evening back | Battery retrofit, switchboard reworked for backup |
| Shed and house split | Batteries where the roof and the room are; backup where people live | Often a gateway layout — Sigenergy or a designed Victron |
| Workshop, cool room, farm | Three-phase loads, demand peaks, plant that cannot wait on a feeder | Commercial design, site visit in person |
Hills towns we already drive
The Adelaide Hills sit inside the South Australia region we publish on the areas page. The other SA pages cover the Fleurieu and Murray Bridge / Murraylands. Outside that map you get a straight answer, and we check whether a preferred partner can take the site on.

An Adelaide Hills design, not a catalogue pack
Tell us the block — ridge or gully, existing solar or a bare roof, how far the shed sits from the switchboard, and what has to run when the feeder drops on a fire day. If stand-alone is the answer, the design shows the winter sizing and the generator rules. If hybrid fits, the design shows that instead.

Adelaide Hills questions, answered
Do you install off-grid solar in the Adelaide Hills?
Yes. Stirling, Aldgate, Mount Barker, Hahndorf and the wider Adelaide Hills sit inside The Off Grid Shop's South Australia footprint. Systems are designed in Lismore and installed by accredited locals already in SA.
Is off-grid cheaper than connecting a rural block in the Hills?
Often the network connection quote for a new rural or grid-edge block covers a complete stand-alone system — solar, storage, inverter and generator integration — with no daily supply charge afterwards. The design compares the two paths with the working shown. No page on this site publishes a dollar figure; the number lives on the design.
Which brands do you install around Stirling and Mount Barker?
Whatever the property calls for. Victron, Sigenergy, Deye, EcoFlow and Australian-made storage are all in the range. No brand is the house brand. The design names the gear after the loads, the layout and the winter sun are counted.
Do rebates apply to off-grid systems in the Adelaide Hills?
Solar STCs generally apply to eligible off-grid solar. Battery support under the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program extends to eligible off-grid batteries where scheme conditions are met — confirmed case by case on the design. South Australia has no standing state battery scheme for new applicants in 2026. The facts page at /rebates states the rules without dollar figures.
Can you design a hybrid system that stays on the SAPN grid?
Yes. Plenty of Hills properties keep the connection and add storage for evening loads, fire-day outages and the option to cut the wire later engineered in from the start. The design says which path fits before anyone spends a cent.
How do I start a design for an Adelaide Hills property?
Send the form on this page or call 0483 927 257. Name, phone and suburb are enough to open it. A designer who already lives in South Australia comes back with a system sized to the property, not a catalogue pack.
