Off-grid and hybrid solar for the Barossa Valley
Vineyard pumps, cool rooms, long rural lines and fire-day outages. If you're on a vineyard block, a farm north of Nuriootpa or a new build on the edge of a town, a well-designed solar and battery system can cut you loose from the grid or keep you going when it drops. Hybrid means solar plus a battery with the grid kept as backup.

What power's like out here
The Barossa is on SA Power Networks' network. Town centres are well served, and the lines through the ranges and out to Kapunda and Truro run a long way through open farmland.
On a Total Fire Ban day the lines through the ranges are the ones most likely to be switched off. Houses and wineries running their own power keep the fridge cold and the pumps turning.
Summers are hot and dry, winters are cool with decent sun. Vintage brings a short, sharp peak in pumping and cooling loads.
Properties are vineyards, mixed farms and lifestyle acreage, and the shed is rarely next to the switchboard.
How we work here
Designed by The Off Grid Shop, installed by a vetted accredited SA installer. Fire-day backup, pumps, cool rooms and generator backup are in the design from the start.
- Tell us about the property on our design form.
- We design the system in-house and send you the design.
- A vetted, accredited local partner installs it. See our recent work.
Common questions
Do you install off-grid solar in the Barossa?
Yes. Tanunda, Nuriootpa, Angaston, Lyndoch and the wider valley are inside our South Australia area. We design it, a vetted accredited SA installer installs it.
Is off-grid cheaper than connecting a rural block in the Barossa?
Often the grid connection price for a new rural block covers a complete stand-alone system with a generator for backup, and there's no daily supply charge afterwards. The design compares both paths with the working shown.
Can you design for a winery, pump or cool room?
Yes. Vintage peaks, pumps and cool rooms are a commercial design, and the site visit is in person. See our commercial page.
Can I get help with the cost?
Federal support can apply to eligible solar and batteries. We check it on each design. See our rebates page.
