Battery storage for the Northern Rivers.
Evening peak bought back from the retailer, storm nights on a long feeder, and a roof already exporting cents. We design home batteries for hybrid retrofits and stand-alone stacks across the region we live in — property first, then the design, then the chemistry.

Stop buying the evening back
Plenty of Northern Rivers roofs already export through the day and buy the dinner peak at retail. Storage turns that export into evening supply. The design sizes against interval data, not a postcode average.
Backup that actually covers the house
East-coast lows and inland feeder drops are the usual test. Whole-home or essential-circuit backup is an engineering call: fridge, pumps, medical loads, the workshop that cannot wait. The design names the circuits before it names the brand.
The federal discount, stated as a fact
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts eligible lithium storage through STCs. Support is strongest on the first 14 kWh of usable capacity. The battery is required to be VPP-capable; joining a VPP is optional. Numbers live on the rebates page as rules, on the design as a line.
Lithium usually, sodium when it fits
No brand is the house brand. Sigenergy, Deye, EcoFlow, Victron-paired storage and Australian-made chemistry each get named when the loads call for them. Sodium-ion is quoted when the profile fits; the federal discount currently covers approved lithium, not sodium.
Property, then design, then gear
No brand is the house brand. We hold no warehouse, on purpose — nothing on a shelf steers the drawing. The battery is named after the loads, the existing inverter if there is one, and the winter sun on that roof.
Retrofit, hybrid, and stand-alone storage
| The job | What the design answers | Where it usually lands |
|---|---|---|
| Existing solar, no battery | Interval data, evening peak, which inverter talks to the array you own | Battery retrofit, switchboard reworked for backup |
| New hybrid on the grid | Whole-home or essential circuits, the option to cut later | Hybrid solar with storage sized to the house |
| Stand-alone stack | Days of autonomy, winter sun, generator start rules | Full off-grid storage — see what we install |
| Shed and house split | Batteries where the roof and the room are; backup where people live | Often a gateway layout — Sigenergy or a designed Victron |
| Workshop, cold room, farm | Three-phase loads, demand peaks, plant that cannot wait on a feeder | Commercial design, site visit in person |
Towns we already drive
This is the Northern Rivers home region on the areas page. Dedicated neighbours: Ballina off-grid, hybrid solar, and Tweed over the border country. Outside that map you get a straight answer, and we check whether a preferred partner can take the site on.

A storage design, not a catalogue pack
Tell us the roof — existing solar or a bare array, how far the shed sits from the switchboard, and what has to run when the feeder drops. The design sizes usable kilowatt-hours against those loads, names the chemistry, and shows the rebate path that actually applies.

Storage questions, answered
Do you install home batteries in the Northern Rivers?
Yes. Lismore, Ballina, Byron, Casino, Kyogle and the towns between them sit inside The Off Grid Shop's home region. Storage is designed in Lismore and installed by accredited locals.
Does the federal battery discount apply here?
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program, running since 1 July 2025, discounts eligible lithium home batteries through STCs. Support is strongest on the first 14 kWh of usable storage. The battery is required to be VPP-capable; joining a VPP is optional. Off-grid batteries are confirmed case by case on the design. The facts page at /rebates states the rules without dollar figures.
Which battery brands do you install?
Whatever the property calls for. Sigenergy, Deye, EcoFlow, Victron-paired storage and Australian-made chemistry are all in the range. Lithium is the usual fit. Sodium-ion is quoted when the load profile calls for it. No brand is the house brand.
Can you add a battery to existing solar?
Yes. A common job in this region is a roof already exporting, with no storage, and an evening peak bought back from the retailer. The design sizes the battery against interval data, reworks the switchboard for backup circuits, and names the inverter that talks to the array you already own.
Is a battery enough to go off-grid later?
Storage is one half of that path. Hybrid systems we design keep the option to cut the wire later engineered in from the start — array size, days of autonomy, generator rules. The design says whether today's battery is a first step or a finished stand-alone stack.
How do I start a battery design?
Send the form on this page or call 0483 927 257. Name, phone and suburb are enough to open it. A designer comes back with storage sized to the property, not a catalogue pack.
