Hybrid solar for the Northern Rivers.
Keep the wire, on your terms. Solar on the roof, a battery that covers the evening, and the grid demoted to a fallback — designed so cutting the connection later stays an open option. Property first, then the design, then the gear.
Designed in Lismore · installed by accredited localsThe grid stays. The daily charge works for you.
Keep the wire — on your terms
Solar charges a sized battery. The house runs on stored sunshine through the evening peak. The network sits in the background as a fallback you rarely touch. The daily supply charge stays — for now — and buys an insurance policy instead of the entire supply.
Cut the wire — completely
No poles, no retailer, no daily charge. Stand-alone power sized for the worst week of winter, with generator integration. Plenty of clients start hybrid and take that step once a storm season has proved the system. See full off-grid when that is the path.
The night the neighbours notice
When the network drops in an east-coast low, a hybrid house with backup circuits stays lit. That is the usual reason a Northern Rivers household opens a design: not a ranking, a wet Tuesday night.
The exit route stays open
Every hybrid we design is laid out so a later stand-alone step is an engineering change, not a rebuild. Array, storage and switchboard are counted with that option in the drawing from day one.
Property, then design, then gear
No brand is the house brand. Sigenergy, Deye, EcoFlow and Victron each get named when the Northern Rivers property calls for them. We hold no warehouse, on purpose — nothing on a shelf steers the drawing.
What a hybrid design answers here
| The job | What the design answers | Where it usually lands |
|---|---|---|
| Grid-connected house, no storage | Evening peak, blackout circuits, interval data | Hybrid battery on the existing connection — storage page |
| Existing solar, ready to grow | Which inverter talks to the array; usable kilowatt-hours | Battery retrofit, switchboard reworked for backup |
| Town block that may cut later | Array and storage counted for a future stand-alone step | Hybrid now, off-grid path drawn in from the start |
| Shed and house split | Batteries where the roof and the room are; backup where people live | Often a gateway layout — Sigenergy or a designed Victron |
| Workshop on the same meter | Three-phase loads, demand peaks, plant that cannot wait | Commercial design, site visit in person |
Towns we already drive
Hybrid work lives in the Northern Rivers home region on the areas page. Dedicated neighbours: Ballina, battery storage, and Tweed. Outside that map you get a straight answer, and we check whether a preferred partner can take the site on.

A hybrid design, not a catalogue pack
Tell us the roof — existing solar or a bare array, which circuits stay up in a blackout, and whether cutting the wire later is on the table. The design shows hybrid first when that is the fit, and the stand-alone path if the property is already there.

Hybrid questions, answered
What is a hybrid solar system?
Solar on the roof, a battery in the shed or plant room, and the grid kept as a fallback. The house runs on its own generation first, rides through blackouts on stored power, and draws from the network only when weather and loads line up against you. The daily supply charge stays — for now — and buys an insurance policy instead of the entire supply.
Do you install hybrid solar in the Northern Rivers?
Yes. Lismore, Ballina, Byron, Bangalow, Mullumbimby and the hinterland sit inside The Off Grid Shop's home region. Systems are designed in Lismore and installed by accredited locals.
How is hybrid different from off-grid?
Hybrid keeps the connection. Off-grid cuts it. Plenty of clients start hybrid and cut the wire once the system proves itself through a storm season. Every hybrid we design keeps that choice open — array, storage and switchboard laid out so a later stand-alone step is an engineering change, not a rebuild.
Do rebates apply to hybrid systems here?
Solar STCs apply to eligible new solar. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts eligible lithium storage. NSW pays an optional VPP incentive on top. The facts page at /rebates states the rules without dollar figures. The number lives on the design.
Which brands do you use for hybrid?
Whatever the property calls for. Sigenergy, Deye, EcoFlow and Victron each get named when the loads, the layout and the winter sun are counted. No brand is the house brand. We hold no warehouse, on purpose.
How do I start a hybrid design?
Send the form on this page or call 0483 927 257. Name, phone and suburb are enough to open it. A designer comes back with a system sized to the property, not a catalogue pack.
